Malcolm's Insight

This musical piece would be the background for a moment in my story when Malcolm has a sudden insight and begins to write it down on a holographic board with those holographic glowing pens. The reviewer at filmtracks.com has professed a rather strong disliking for composers who use minor to major chord progressions to create the feeling of awe or inspiration or grandeur in place of a decent theme, but I think it's fine to use such progressions. I would, of course, also have a good theme for the movie and perhaps each character, but in scenes that require something epic, nothing can beat the chord progression (see Sunshine and 28 Days/Weeks Later for proof).

I like the marimba/xylophone sound. My main inspiration for that is from the soundtrack for Proof (with Anthony Hopkins). I think the general sound of it is suitable for both conveying the feeling of Malcolm's insight and also making the tune slightly kiddish, to reflect Malcolm's young age.

And I love it. I made the eye a bit bluer to match Malcolm's eyes, but the look is perfect. I imagine Malcolm looking up at the board when he is finished writing down his idea, or perhaps he has taken a break to look up and inspect his work.
